Frequently asked questions

So… What is Two Eight?

We’re a 501c3 non-profit missions organization, and we provide live music and event production services to lead musical worship, do outreach and evangelism, and to help other non-profits and organizations amplify their message and reach their audiences. We have 3 full-time staff, and dozens of musicians and production specialists that make up our extended team.

Founded by Eric and Jillian Maitlen in 2005, our work started by being missional artists and performers doing outreach concerts and leading worship for various campus ministry and church events.

Over the years, we grew into a collective of artists and production specialists who worked together based on shared passion. Out of necessity, Two Eight began acquiring the equipment it took to produce events - sound equipment, projectors, an LED wall, staging, lighting, a headset comm system, etc.

So now, we’re able to provide music performance, technical production and program direction services for small-to-medium scale events. That helps the organizations we partner with create conferences, festivals or worship sessions where people can experience life change.

What does two eight do?

  • We create music and put together teams that lead musical worship, and our clients include campus ministries like Greek InterVarsity, Athletes in Action, and Cru as well as local organizations and churches.

  • We provide production services like sound, lighting, projection / LED wall, and program direction.

  • We host tours and festival events to serve Indiana’s addiction recovery and mental health communities.

  • We create media/film/video content that helps us and our partners tell their stories.

That sounds like a business. But you’re a non-profit, and you are donor-supported. Why is that?

Being donor-funded allows us to take events and music to where there is the greatest potential for life-change, and makes it possible to work with organizations that would otherwise struggle to afford it.

While we do charge for our services, we subsidize the rates for our mission-aligned partners as much as we can with donor-provided funds. The missional alignment is a huge value-add for the organizations we partner with, since we bring many, many years of experience in ministry and conference production to bear in the event planning process.

You do a lot in the area of addiction recovery. Why is that?

Through some personal family connections, we became acutely aware of the epidemic-level opioid addiction crisis in our state. And we saw a need to find ways to connect people to resources and break the stigmas associated with addiction and with getting help.

In-person live music events create a fun, family-friendly place for people in those communities to gather. At these events, people can celebrate comeback stories, hear from leaders in the mental health and addiction recovery spaces, and find local resources for their recovery journey. And since faith is one of the many pathways to recovery, there’s room for us to talk about what we believe, without being heavy-handed.

Ultimately, we want to help people experience not only recovery, but redemption.

Those events and partnerships have earned us a lot of relational equity with leaders of local and state organizations across Indiana, and we’ve become trusted partners in creating events that accelerate what they’re doing.

Why “Two Eight”?

It's a reference to Psalm 2:8, which says: "Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession."

We have a great desire to help take God’s kingdom to the entire Earth. Two Eight’s early work involved international missions, and our staff have performed concerts in over 20 countries, spanning 5 of the 7 continents. We hope to get overseas many more times in the future.
